Overhyping Your MLM May Bring Undesirable Results

Thanks god it’s Friday. I hope you’ve all had an amazing week thus far. Anyhow, before I spend my weekend enjoying the much warmer weather in Toronto, I thought I’d share a bit of insight into a recent email I received from some random stranger I met on Twitter. I’m sharing this with everyone here, in hopes that perhaps we can all learn something from this person’s appraoch.

Dear Paul, [P.S. This Emails Subject Line is ATTENTION MLM Business Builder / Come Join Our Extremely Lucrative Dream Team Project]

Do you believe you can make an ongoing fortune providing a consumable solution that gets reordered every month, that virtually everyone wants, that almost no one says no to, and that saves consumers substantial money beyond the cost of the product on a bill that they absolutely have to pay anyway, usually weekly?

I’ve luckily stumbled upon a truly amazing opportunity that leverages energy from the current perfect storm of three colliding megatrends that is completely recession proof and will not go away or drop off for a very long time, because it’s locked into current technologies that most people are not going to stop using for decades.

If you haven’t already deduced it, this has nothing to do with nutrition, skin care, water makers or filters or any product remotely like any of those.

MY RESPONSE: Correct me if I’m wrong, but your message seems as though it needs a bit of tweaking. Please note, I am not here to criticize, only to address some areas you need to work on to get more results in recruiting more.

1. You mention an opportunity dealing with a consumable product –>

You’re on the right track here. Selling a consumable product can be beneficial in creating long term residual wealth.

2. You also mention a product that “virtually everyone wants, that almost no one says no to” –>

You might need to be a little more accurate with this one. From my own perspective, it’s already starting to sound too good to be true. The only thing I can think of that no one would say no to is free cash. In the history of MLM, there hasn’t been a single product that EVERYBODY. If you are going to attract anyone by stating this, it would either be someone who is living in some fantasy world that actually believes this stuff or someone who hates rejection and will do anything (or in this case nothing at all) in order to avoid it. [How’s that for a run-on sentence. =) True MLM business builders do not care about being rejected, so there’s no real need to sugar coat the opportunity by stating that the product is an easy sell. You might want to ask yourself “If it sold on it’s own, then why in the world would they have people like us conversationally market the product.”

So what? Since you’re talking about addressingprofessional marketers, you don’t need to tell us that you’re working with the only presidential executive director. All I’ve gathered from that statement is that  compensation plan is too difficult to succeed in, where there’s only 1 person at the top. (and doing that can potentially spark the stigma that has affected network marketing for SOOOO many years)

What does this mean, and where is the proof?

5. Try not to be so secretive. It doesn’t work anymore. If anything, it just makes people more skeptical about the opportunity. Perhaps focus your attention more on the benefits the ready might experience, rather than the features. If there really aren’t any true benefits, it might be time for you to look at another opportunity. The fact of the matter is, in order to be truly successful in your mlm opportunity, you will require to have products and/or services that have retail value. (One thing to ask yourself is this: Does this product/service of mine offer plenty of value, that I be open with sharing it with my close friends and family?)

6. Last word of advice. Good luck. And please also make sure your focus is always on your prospect. Nobody really cares how you want to do with the company. They honestly want to know what you will do to help them achieve their goals.
